Calculating Perimeter of Triangle

Perimeter of Triangle: The total distance around the outside or boundary of a triangle.

Perimeter of any figure: Like any polygon, the perimeter is the total distance around the outside, which can be found by adding together the length of each side.

Or as a formula: Perimeter = a + b + c

where a,b and c are the lengths of each side of the triangle.

We will discuss here how to find the perimeter of a triangle. We know perimeter of a triangle is the total length (distance) of the boundary of a triangle.

The perimeter of a triangle ABC

Perimeter of a Triangle

                    = AB + BC + CA

                    = 2 cm + 4 cm + 3 cm = 9 cm (add the length of each side of the triangle)

therefore Perimeter of the triangle = Sum of the sides.

Illustration: If 2 sides of the triangle are 3cm, 7cm and perimeter is 55cm then what will be the length of the third side?

Solution: Let third side of triangle = x

As we know that Perimeter of triangle = Sum of its all sides

Hence, 55 = 3 + 7 + x

           55 = 10 + x

            55 - 10 = x

            x = 45 cm

Hence, third side of the triangle = 45cm
